Classification
The following table details the different color classes used in gladiolus growing and hybridizing. These are the last two numbers in the three-digit gladiolus classification number: for example, a glad classed as a 287 is a very deep violet. The first number in the three-digit sequence stands for the span, in inches, across the open blossom. The same glad, classed 287, therefore measures about two inches across.
